I *heart* Bombay (and well..Boston)

I'm urban..in the way other people are mountain-people or tunafish junkies. I love city life...something about dreary concrete blocks and grumpy people totally gets my juices flowing. Ergo, this will be a blog about me, my two favourite cities (Bombay and Boston), my addiction to Vietnamese coffee and my views on Gregorian chant and it's efficacy in curing some types of tympannic membrane rupture. Enjoy!

Weird huh?

I'm in Bangalore...came here for a funeral, stayed to interview for a job, perhaps plan a future.

Suddenly, I'm not sure if this is where I want to be. The cocoon that familiar surroundings and people encased me in these last 2 years seems hard to let go off. The future that seemed reachable just yesterday seems just that far away again. The sacrifices and changes called for seem just .... not fair somehow.

One spends a lifetime being the person one is today and yet, there's always something lacking. Some will make that change, some will say it's just something to get used to. Who am I? The first person or the second?

The job I just *might* get tomorrow, the fact I just *might* be moving here in 2 weeks somehow doesn't hold that excitement for me anymore.

Why do decisions have to be made? Why do people make decisions without considering how it makes someone else feel?

If I'm rambling, it's probably cause it's 1 am here in Bangalore and I'm sitting under my mango tree here on the terrace of our house (stealing my neighbor's wi-fi connection) and debating what I need to do and generally being all over the place with my feelings.

Wasn't growing up supposed to make everything feel better?

No it wasn't. Ask a 100 people if they could turn back time and be a child again, would they do it.

Let me know how many said yes.

    I salute your determination.

You set yourself a six month deadline July last and God knows you seem to be moving out of Mumbai pretty much on schedule.

Whatever you decide here's wishing you the best

When we grow up, our problems do as well.
So much in life is about chance. A chance encounter with someone at the wrong time or the right time; a brush with death that leaves you unscathed while the scythe captures another. G-d has plans for all of us, and the best we can do is try to steer this crazy car towards the right side of the road -- slowing down or stopping, that is beyond us....

Don't do it. Don't make the mistake of leaving Bombay. I speak from experience. Take a break, go on a holiday and come back.

now is as good a time to give blore a shot as any. the cocoon of familiarity is a thing of the past in blore, even for a hard core blore girl like me. the know-85%-of-the-ppl-at-any-given-bar-at-any-given-point is no longer true at all, and while that is a thing to lament a bit nostaligically, it is hardly a bad thing to have happened to this (still) wonderful city. my bangalore is growing and accepting at an amazing rate and it gets more interesting each time i return home from new york. it has always been a cool and liberal place to live in, and with the new diversity that gets added to it everyday, i dont see any reason not to be a part of it. i'm considering moving back in a year... if i can afford it. if i do, and if you decide to stay on, i'll meet you there at the "it" club/bar at that time... good luck! :)

    oh,..
wheren't you thinking about something similar going away from Boston? Where you making decisions without considering how it makes someone else feel, then? Isn't it really about what you feel right now?
